Student Solidarity with Iraq Veterans Against the War
This administration needs to listen to and start giving REAL support to our troops and veterans. They provide a crucial perspective that we all need to hear and consider. A majority of the members in IVAW are young people, many of them students, they are our peers and we must support them! Check out their hot new website, www.ivaw.org (To request a speaker go to the "Support IVAW" section)
- Invite and schedule speaking engagements for IVAW members on college campuses, high schools, churches, bookstores, community centers, rallies, etc.
- Pass IVAW brochures/flyers out everywhere (especially where other veterans might be like soup kitchens, homeless shelters and VA offices)
- Write letters to the editor and Op Eds for campus and local newspapers about IVAW (you could interview members)
- Do or support veterans doing Truth in Recruiting work (speaking at high schools, passing out flyers, etc. Check out www.youthinthemilitary.org
- Send people to IVAW's website, link it to your website
- Host fundraising parties and events for IVAW
- Learn how to support an IVAW or Veterans for Peace chapters in your area (www.veteransforpeace.org)
- Learn how to support a Vets for Vets program in your area (www.vets4vets.us)
- Let us know what events you are planning so we can put them on the website
- Flaunt your sexy "I support IVAW" gear as often as possible: bumper stickers on your car, bike, computer, notebooks, wear your "I support IVAW" shirt often, buttons everywhere.
- Sell these items on your campus and/or at events in your area. (If you don't have these yet, contact the IVAW office)
- Support veterans in putting pressure on Congressmen/women to stop paying for the war and to increase funding of veterans benefits. Pressure Congressmen/women to meet with Iraq veterans
- Plaster your campus with IVAW flyers, brochures, posters, etc.
